NHS England has officially expanded its Pharmacy First service as of June 2024, allowing community pharmacies across England to offer consultations and supply prescription-only medicines for seven common conditions without the need for a GP appointment.

This initiative aims to reduce pressure on general practitioners and improve patient access to timely care for conditions such as sinusitis, sore throat, earache, infected insect bites, impetigo, shingles, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women.

The expansion follows a successful pilot and is part of NHS England's broader strategy to enhance primary care services and streamline patient pathways. More information can be found on the NHS England website.
