The World Health Organization participated in the 26th International AIDS Conference, AIDS 2026, held from 26 to 31 July in Rio de Janeiro and virtually. This key global event brought together experts and practitioners to discuss advancements and challenges in the fight against HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections.

During the conference, WHO led several important sessions, including the launch of the mid-term assessment of the Global Health Sector Strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis, and STIs. This assessment evaluates progress and guides renewed efforts in these critical health areas.

Additionally, WHO presented updated technical guidance aimed at supporting clinicians and public-health practitioners worldwide. These tools are designed to enhance the effectiveness of clinical and preventive interventions to better serve affected communities.
