The declaration, followed the detection of cases of dairy cows on farms in Southern California.
California Governor has declared a state of emergency in response to a significant outbreak of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu. This decision comes as cases of the highly contagious virus continue to surge across the state, impacting both wild and domestic bird populations and raising concerns about potential human transmission.
The outbreak, caused by the H5N1 strain of the virus, has already led to the culling of thousands of poultry to prevent further spread. Wildlife experts have reported widespread infections among migratory birds, with several coastal regions and inland waterfowl habitats showing alarming mortality rates.
“This emergency declaration will allow us to mobilize resources more effectively, coordinate with federal agencies, and take decisive action to protect public health and our agricultural industry,” the governor stated during a press briefing.
